Seawolves Take on # 17 Robert Morris University this weekend

The Seawolves have opened the 2nd half of the season with a 3-1 record and are currently on a 3 game winning streak. Two weeks ago the Seawolves faced off against Liberty University for two back to back home games. In the first contest Liberty controlled the majority of the game and beat the Seawolves by a score of 6-1. When coach Garofalo was asked why the team did not play well he said "We were not mentally prepared to play and it showed". He also continued to say "Losing the game was not easy but what hurt the most was losing our leading scorer Mike Cacciotti for the season with a shoulder injury and one our top defenseman Pat Foster with a broken ankle." The Seawolves did however show a lot of character and heart when they were able to come back on Sunday and defeat Liberty in overtime by a score of 3-2. The Seawolves were losing the contest 2-0 mid way through the second period until senior forward Bryan Elfant received a cross ice pass from junior forward Josh Goellner and scored to make the game 2-1. The score stayed that way until senior forward Chris Ryan scored the tying goal with only 14 seconds left in the game. Although the Seawolves were happy to tie the game they weren't satisfied and were looking to win it in overtime. With just only 40 seconds into overtime freshman forward Wesley Hawkins received a breakaway pass from junior defenseman Jason Aro, after being hooked the entire way down the ice Hawkins was able to get a shot off which went through the five whole of the Liberty goalie to win the contest for the Seawolves in overtime. After the game Wesley Hawkins said "With the way we lost yesterday and the injuries that happened to Mike Cacciotti and Pat Foster this win was huge for the team. It just proves that if you want something bad enough you not only have to be physically prepared but mentally as well. We came into the game with a completely different attitude than the night before and we won". The Seawolves then went on the road this past weekend and beat Drexel University by a score of 4-1 on Saturday and on Sunday beat Scranton University by a score of 8-1. The Seawolves stand out player for the weekend was Bryan Elfant who scored one goal against Drexel and four goals against Scranton. The Seawolves are looking to continue their winning ways this weekend when they play Robert Morris University of PA on Saturday at 8:00 PM and on Sunday at 12:00 noon. The last time these two teams met earlier in the season each team had a win. Robert Morris is currently ranked 17th in the country while Stony Brook is ranked 16th. This weekend should be filled with fast paced and hard hitting action. Once again the Seawolves really need your support this weekend, so put on your Stony Brook reds and come watch the best college hockey program on Long Island.
